Cottage food and privacy

Boulangerie Milon, LLC is a cottage food production operation in South Austin, Texas. The baker makes the food at home. Texas law allows that food to be offered on a website, and allows an internet sale, when the buyer is in Texas, the baker or an employee or household member delivers it in person, and this page is posted before anyone takes payment. This site does not take payment and does not ship by mail or a carrier. Weekly drops are paid for on Hotplate. Weekend orders are paid for on Puente’s site.

That sentence is the disclosure required on Texas cottage-food labels by Health and Safety Code § 437.0193. Texas also requires the labeling statement on this page to be on the operation’s website before the baker accepts payment for an internet sale (§ 437.0194). Read this before you pay

The operation’s name is Boulangerie Milon, LLC. The foods offered on this site are baked goods:

The name on the Hotplate or Puente listing is the common name of the food you are buying. State law does not require the street address on this website before payment. The home address, or a Department of State Health Services identification number in place of that address, is on the package after payment.

These bakes use wheat flour and butter, and butter is a milk ingredient, except where a listing says that food is gluten-free. Cranberry pistachio muffins contain pistachio, a tree nut. A particular bake can also include eggs, other tree nuts, soy, peanuts, or sesame. This site does not offer fish, shellfish, meat, poultry, ice cream, or raw milk. The package for the food you buy names the major allergens used in that food. If the listing you are about to pay for does not show that allergen line, email natalie@boulangeriemilon.com and ask for it before you pay.

What is on the package

Each food the bakery sells is labeled. The label includes:

The name Boulangerie Milon, LLC.
The home address, or a Department of State Health Services identification number in place of that address.
The common name of the food.
Any major food allergen in that food. Texas lists eggs, tree nuts, soy, peanuts, milk, wheat, and sesame.
The disclosure printed above.
The date the food was made, when that food must be kept cold or when a cottage-food vendor sells it.

Food that must stay cold

SAFE HANDLING INSTRUCTIONS: To prevent illness from bacteria, keep this food refrigerated or frozen until the food is prepared for consumption.

That instruction applies to a time-and-temperature-control food. Bread and other shelf-stable bakes are not that category. When a bake does need the cold, the same sentence is on its label or on the receipt, in at least 12-point type, and the baker has to be registered with the Department of State Health Services for that food.

Internet orders

An internet sale of this cottage food is a sale inside Texas. The baker, an employee, or a member of the household delivers it in person to the buyer. This site does not offer shipment by a carrier.

Privacy

This site does not ask for an account, a mailing list, or a card number. It does not run advertising or analytics cookies, and it does not sell personal information.

Loading a page also loads pictures and a small links file from this same site. The host that serves the site can keep ordinary connection logs, such as an IP address and the time of the request. This site does not use those logs to build a profile of you.

Hotplate, Puente, Instagram, TikTok, and Amazon are separate services. Payment, if you order, happens on Hotplate or Puente. A click to one of those sites, or an email to the bakery, is handled by that service under its own terms.
